Council approved implementation plan
Town staff finalized a work plan to implement the Action Plan to Dismantle Anti-Black Racism (DABR) spanning the next two years. The plan outlines deliverables for the Town to take to dismantle anti-Black racism and remove barriers Black individuals face in Newmarket.
Central York Fire Services Career Day in partnership with Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association (NACCA)
On Saturday, October 21 CYFS in partnership with the Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association (NACCA), is hosting an all-day information session for parents, students or those considering a career shift to fire services to meet people in the industry, learn about the various roles and discover training options and career paths.
Fighting fires is only part of the role a fire department plays in the community, there are many important roles you can explore:
- Firefighting, rescues, emergency management
- Educating the public about fire safety
- Inspecting buildings for fire safety measures
- Investigating origin and causes of fires
- Answering and dispatching 9-1-1 calls

Deadline to apply for the Dismantling Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee
The Town is forming a committee of 7-11 individuals within the Black community who represent a diversity of perspectives, including age, gender, cultural, ethnic, language and country origins, socio-economic status, abilities, disabilities and ecucation.
This is a great opportunity for individuals to:
Help strengthen the Town of Newmarket’s connection to Black communities
Provide input and support to the Town on addressing anti-Black racism
Facilitate communication and engagement with Black communities
Members will be appointed for a two-year term from 2024 to 2026 and will be expected to attend quarterly meetings (in person or virtually) at 7 p.m.
Members will receive an honorarium of $100 per meeting.
The community’s participation in this committee is a foundational role in supporting Town staff and Council in taking steps to action to dismantle anti-Black racism in Newmarket.
