Notice of Construction: Riverwalk Commons Parking Lot (P3) Expansion and Improvements
The Town of Newmarket is increasing the number of parking spots and making improvements to the existing Riverwalk Commons Parking Lot (P3). From March 24 to June 7, 2025, the gravel lot located at the north end of Riverwalk Commons (former Tennis Club) will be converted to a permanent paved parking lot adding over 150 new spots. The work also includes improvements to the existing parking lot including repaving of the lot, curb repair and additional sidewalk to enhance pedestrian safety.
For the duration of the project, parking in the P3 parking lot (including the gravel lot) the Town has phased the construction to ensure over 225 parking spaces are always available. During this time visitors are encouraged to use other parking lots located in the downtown area at:
- Fairy Lake Parking Lots
- All Our Kids (AOK) Parking Lot
- Street parking on Church Street
- Lion’s Park Parking Lot off Church Street
- On Street Parking on Cane Parkway
What to Expect
- Full closure for the Temporary Gravel Parking Lot located in P3 as of March 24
- Existing P3 Parking Lot to remain open during the first phase of construction
- During the final two phases over 225 parking spaces to be made available
- Access to businesses and public will remain open at all times
- Scheduled events and programs at Riverwalk Commons will continue as scheduled; however, the Town is limiting facility rentals at the Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall during peak times to further alleviate parking pressures.
- Typical work hours will be from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Some low impact work will occur on weekends
- Noise, dust, and minor vibrations may occur.
Project Benefits
The Town is proud of its award-winning Historic Main Street and is committed to providing everyone a positive experience when visiting the area. These additional parking spots will greatly benefit the needs of the growing popularity of the downtown for the foreseeable future.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete the parking expansion and improvement.
