The Town of Newmarket is installing new traffic signals at the intersection of Eagle Street and McCaffery Road.
Construction is anticipated to take place from September through the end of November 2026.
The work will include installation of traffic signal poles and equipment, underground electrical infrastructure, pavement markings, associated civil works, and other modifications required to support the new signalized intersection.
Benefits of the project
The project is being undertaken to improve traffic operations and safety at the Eagle Street and McCaffrey Road intersection and to better accommodate vehicles entering and exiting McCaffrey Road as well as the adjacent parking/access areas.
The improvements will provide more controlled and predictable movements through the intersection.
The new traffic signals are expected to:
Improve overall intersection safety and traffic operations.
Provide more controlled access to and from McCaffrey Road.
Improve traffic flow and provide clearer right-of-way for motorists and other road users.
Support the safe and efficient operation of the intersection as traffic demands continue to evolve.
What to expect during construction?
During construction, motorists may experience minor traffic delays and temporary impacts to access in the vicinity of the intersection, including the adjacent parking lot entrance. Temporary traffic control measures may be required as the work progresses.
The Town and contractor will make every effort to maintain access and minimize disruptions. No full road closures are anticipated at this time, and additional information regarding any specific traffic or access impacts will be communicated as construction progresses.
