Old Main Street Reconstruction - Notice of Tree Removal

May 8, 2026

Dear Resident,

The Town of Newmarket is continuing work for the planned capital infrastructure improvements on Old Main Street, between Bexhill Road and the Main Street North Bypass. These upgrades are required to urbanize the roadway, extend the service life of the infrastructure and bring it up to current Engineering Design Standards.

What is happening on my street?

To prepare for upcoming utility relocation and roadway reconstruction, the Town has retained a Licensed Arborist to assess existing trees and vegetation. Only trees and vegetation that impede the new infrastructure within the street right-of-way will be removed. The Town has made every effort to preserve as many trees and vegetation as possible. New trees will be planted at the end of construction with long-lasting, native species to southern Ontario, such as maple trees and black cherry trees. To maintain as much of the landscape as long as possible, the trees surrounding the future stormwater management pond will remain in place until early next year.

What can I expect from this work?

Tree removal work along the roadway is scheduled to commence May 13, 2026 and be completed by the end of May. Working hours will be Monday to Friday from 7:00am to 7:00pm. Residents may notice some construction noise, debris related to the work, and some construction traffic. Access for emergency vehicles and garbage/recycling will be maintained at all times, and the Town will make every effort to limit disruption to the neighbourhood. Residents whose trees are affected will receive a notice 48 hours
