The Town of Newmarket is updating its Stormwater Comprehensive Plan.
Stormwater is the rain and melted snow that runs off streets and properties, into creeks and streams, and eventually into rivers, Lake Simcoe, and the Great Lakes.
The Town manages stormwater with a system of pipes, ditches, Low Impact Developments, Oil and Grit Separators, and stormwater management ponds. This infrastructure helps to improve the water quality of runoff and to reduce erosion and flooding.
Purpose
The scope of the project includes but is not limited to the following:
Build and calibrate a Town-wide dual drainage stormwater model.
Assess current and future system capacity and constraints.
Identify and prioritize capital projects, retrofits, and operational strategies.
Conduct climate vulnerability assessments.
Delineate and classify sewersheds.
Develop a phased financial forecast and implementation plan.
When complete, the plan will act as a decision-making guide for prioritizing projects, budgeting, and estimating and addressing future needs of our environment and growing community.
We want to hear from you! We will be holding two public open houses during the project to get your feedback. To stay up-to-date please check back regularly and sign up below to receive email updates.
