[Applications Now Closed] – Join the Dismantling Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee
Do you want to have an impact in shaping Newmarket’s culture? The Town is forming a committee of 7-11 individuals within the local Black community who represent a diversity of perspectives, including age (youth 16+), gender, cultural, ethnic, language and country origins, socio-economic status, abilities, disabilities and education.
This is a great opportunity for individuals to:
✅ Help strengthen the Town of Newmarket’s connection to Black communities
✅ Provide input and support to the Town on addressing anti-Black racism
✅ Facilitate communication and engagement with Black communities
✅ Help provide progress reports to Council
✅ Build your leadership skills and create connections
Members will be appointed for a two-year term from 2024 to 2026 and will be expected to attend quarterly meetings (in person or virtually) at 7 p.m.
Members will receive an honorarium of $100 per attended meeting.
The community’s participation in this committee is a foundational role in supporting Town staff and Council in taking steps to action to dismantle anti-Black racism in Newmarket. Browse this webpage to learn more about the work to get us here and the implementation plan in progress.

Applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee which consists of three members of the Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association. The Selection Committee will be responsible for making the appointments to the DABRAC.
