The Town of Newmarket will be making improvements to the stormwater system in your neighborhood. The Town has awarded a contract to Ambler & Co. to replace the existing steel stormwater culvert on Kingdale Road that is nearing its end of life and replace it with a concrete box culvert. (See map below) The goal of this project is to renew the existing stormwater infrastructure to mitigate potential flooding. Construction work is scheduled to commence on October 23, 2023, and is expected to last until November 30, 2023, depending on weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.
The Town is trying to minimize the impacts that will be felt by residents during construction. However, please note the following:
ROAD CLOSURE: Kingdale Road will be closed in both directions at the culvert location near the Mulock Drive intersection throughout the construction. As a result, access to your home will be from Leslie Street only. Detour signage will be installed to direct the general public, including delivery services. All Emergency Services are being notified so that they are aware of the change and therefore, emergency response times will not be affected.
GARBAGE COLLECTION: Residents north of Druery Court will be provided with black bags for garbage and clear bags for recycling and green bin waste. Garbage and recycling will be collected on your normal scheduled pickup days at your curbside by the Contractor. While residents are encouraged to use the bags provided, recycling bins can still be used, but they must be labeled with your address so that they can be returned to your home after pickup. Residents are asked to have garbage/recycling at the end of their driveway by 7:00 a.m. on pick-up day. For residents south of Druery Court and on Druery Court, your garbage and recycling pickup routines will not be affected.
COMMUNITY MAILBOX: Canada Post has relocated the current mailbox south of the construction site to the west side of Kingdale Road to allow for safe and more convenient access for residents during construction. The mailbox will be returned to its original location at the end of construction.
Construction projects of this nature usually cause some degree of dust, noise, and vibration. The Town and its contractor will make every effort to minimize these inconveniences as much as possible. We appreciate your patience during the construction.
We also understand that children may be curious about the construction activities and equipment, so we kindly ask parents to keep children and pets out of the construction areas, both during and after working hours. The usual working hours are between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. There could be work on some Saturdays, but this would be on occasion only.
The Town of Newmarket encourages your comments and inquiries about the project. Should you have any questions regarding the project prior to or during the work, please reach out to Hossam Mossa, Project Manager, Capital Projects, at the Town of Newmarket by emailing hmossa@newmarket.ca or by calling 905-895-5193 ext. 2504. After hours emergencies can be reported to the Town’s Customer Service by calling 905-895-5193.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during this work.
Regards,
