Lorne Avenue - Construction Corner Update #8 - Week of March 30, 2022

As a resident of Lorne Avenue, you have been receiving regular notices from the Town of Newmarket regarding the reconstruction project in your area. Once again, we hope you’ve had a wonderful and safe winter break and would like to thank you for your continued patience and support throughout this phase of the project.

Construction of Phase 2, from Timothy Street to Davis Drive, will commence in the next two weeks (weather permitting), and will continue throughout the remainder of 2022. Outstanding deficiencies and minor works associated with the Phase 1 works (between Eagle Street and Timothy Street) are to be finalized while Phase 2 works are being done. The final coat of asphalt for the entire project is scheduled for 2023.

Over the past two weeks:

• The Contractor, Direct Underground, is preparing its materials and equipment to remobilize on site full-force for the beginning of April (weather permitting).

Over the next two weeks:

• Site preparation for Phase 2 works (Timothy Street to Davis Drive) will commence.

• Digging and the installation of the sanitary and storm sewers will begin at the intersection of Timothy Street and Lorne Avenue and will proceed in a northerly direction

The contractor will provide residents with a notice regarding traffic controls for the upcoming works. Waste and recycling curbside pick-up by Green for Life (GFL) will not be disrupted during construction. Any changes to the pick-up schedule will be communicated to residents in advance.

Please note that rolling, temporary closures of small sections of the road as the project moves along will be necessary to allow for the completion of Phase 2 works.

Detour routes for bicycles and vehicular traffic will remain until Phase 2 of the project is completed. Local access for pedestrians and for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Information on this project is being communicated through these updates as well as the contractor’s hand-delivered notices, and by your Construction Liaison Committee representatives. Signage is in place to ensure safe traffic flow in the area.

We value your feedback on these updates and we appreciate your patience while we proceed with this reconstruction project. Please contact us at 905-895-5193 to provide your thoughts.
