Lorne Avenue - Construction Corner Update - Week of December 5, 2022

As a resident of Lorne Avenue, you have been receiving regular notices from the Town of Newmarket regarding the reconstruction project in your area. Thank you for your continued patience and support on this project.

The Town’s contractor continues to make progress in completing the project, and is currently focused on completing restoration work within the boulevards, including sidewalks and topsoil placement prior to winter. Weather has been fairly cooperative but concrete supply remains an issue. While Phase 2 works are expected to be completed prior to the holidays, the contractor will be returning in the spring for Phase 3, which includes elevated coloured concrete intersections, surface asphalt, final pavement markings, and final restoration of all areas.

Work completed over the last two weeks:

• Curbs are complete, with the exception of small sections behind catch basins;

• Base asphalt has been installed throughout the project area;

• Topsoil and sod have been partially installed for approximately 70 per cent of the project;

• Driveway restorations have been partially completed, with driveways north of Millard Avenue still outstanding; and

• The majority of sidewalk has been installed, with minor deficiencies remaining.

Work anticipated over the next few weeks:

• Remaining driveway and walkway restorations will be completed;

• Topsoil and sod will be completed to the extent possible. Sod is weather dependent as it may not be harvested any longer due to winter conditions.

• Installation of new signage; and

• Remaining temporary pavement markings.

During the remaining construction, the contractor will endeavour to maintain access to driveways wherever possible. At times, such as when sidewalk is being poured and allowed to cure, this may not be possible. Residents will be notified prior to driveway access disruption, and parking on side streets may be required. The disruption notice should be placed on dashboards to avoid ticketing during overnight parking.

Detour routes for vehicular traffic ended November 30. Local access for residents, pedestrians and emergency vehicles is maintained. Please use caution and drive slowly through the construction site as construction continues. Kindly be mindful of workers, construction vehicles, pedestrians and children trying to negotiate their way safely through the site. The detour using Main Street will no longer be in effect.

Information on this project is being communicated through this Construction Corner, heynewmarket.ca/lorne and by your Construction Liaison Committee representatives.

The Town values your feedback on these updates and appreciates your continued patience while we proceed with this reconstruction project. Please contact us at 905-895-5193 to provide your thoughts.
