Lorne Avenue - Construction Corner Update - Week of November 21, 2022

As a resident of Lorne Avenue, you have been receiving regular notices from the Town of Newmarket regarding the reconstruction project in your area. Thank you for your continued patience and support on this project.

The Town’s contractor continues to make progress in completing the project, and is currently focused on completing restoration work within the boulevards, including sidewalks and topsoil placement prior to winter.

Over the past two weeks:

• Curb installation has been completed;

• Sidewalk installation was completed south of the Millard Avenue intersection;

• Base asphalt has been installed from Timothy Street to Davis Drive; and,

• Restoration works, driveway restoration and boulevard re-grading are ongoing.

Over the next two weeks:

• Sidewalk installation north of Millard Avenue will be completed; and,

• Restoration works will continue, including the removal of existing abandoned fire hydrants, placement of topsoil within the boulevards and installation of concrete Canada Post superbox pads.

While issues associated with a shortage of available construction materials have slowed progress on the project, works associated with Phase 2 of the project remain on schedule to be completed by year end. Final restoration, including raised intersections and top asphalt, will be resumed in the spring and will be completed in 2023.

During sidewalk construction, the contractor will endeavour to maintain access to driveways wherever possible. At times, such as when sidewalk is being excavated, formed and poured, this may not be possible. Residents will be notified prior to driveway access disruption, and parking on side streets may be required. The disruption notice should be placed on dashboards to avoid ticketing during overnight parking.

Detour routes for vehicular traffic will remain in place until the end of November. Local access for residents, pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be maintained. Signage is in place to ensure safe traffic flow. Please use caution and drive slowly through the construction site as construction continues.

Kindly be mindful of workers, construction vehicles, pedestrians and children trying to negotiate their way safely through the site and use detours whenever possible.

Waste and recycling curbside pick-up by Green for Life (GFL) will not be disrupted during construction.

Any changes to the pick-up schedule will be communicated to residents in advance. Information on this project is being communicated through this Construction Corner, through heynewmarket.ca/lorne and by your Construction Liaison Committee representatives.

The Town values your feedback on these updates and appreciates your continued patience while we proceed with this reconstruction project. Please contact us at 905-895-5193 to provide your thoughts.
