Lorne Avenue - Construction Corner Update - Week of October 24, 2022

As a resident of Lorne Avenue, you have been receiving regular notices from the Town of Newmarket regarding the reconstruction project in your area. Thank you for your continued patience and support with the project.

The contractor and sub-contractors continue with road reconstruction between Timothy Street and Davis Drive, and restoration of the right-of-way throughout the project. Currently, the focus is on getting all concrete work completed, beginning with curbs, followed by sidewalk construction. In parallel, new retaining walls and restoration works between private properties and the sidewalk are being installed where required.

Over the past two weeks:

• Excavation of the existing road materials was completed;

• Installation of retaining walls north of Timothy Street on the east side of Lorne Avenue was initiated; and,

• The sidewalks on the east side of Lorne Avenue from Millard Avenue to Timothy Street were completed.

Over the next two weeks:

• Remaining curbs and gutters will be completed throughout the project area;

• Boulevard restoration, including re-grading, driveway restoration, and retaining walls will continue;

• Fine grading of the road will be initiated in preparation of asphalt paving; and,

• The mailbox pad at Lorne Avenue and Park Avenue will be poured.

Installation of the base coat of asphalt is tentatively scheduled for the middle of November. While works remain on schedule to be completed by year end, issues associated with a shortage of available concrete have slowed works on the project. The major works in Phase Two of this project are expected to be completed by end of 2022, with restoration work resuming in the spring of 2023.

During road building, the contractor will endeavour to maintain access to driveways wherever possible. At times, such as when curb and sidewalk are being constructed, this may not be possible. Residents will be notified prior to driveway access disruption, and parking on side streets may be required. The disruption notice should be placed on dashboards to avoid ticketing during overnight parking.

Please note: Rolling temporary road closures will be necessary in the area to allow for the completion of this project.

Detour routes for vehicular traffic will remain in place until the project is completed. Local access for residents, pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be maintained. Signage is in place to ensure safe traffic flow. Please note that road conditions may deteriorate during construction, especially when it rains. Although crews do their best to maintain the road in good condition for vehicles, there will be bumps and holes to contend with. Please use caution and drive slowly to maintain control of your vehicle and to avoid any potential damage, and use detours whenever possible.

Waste and recycling curbside pick-up by Green for Life (GFL) will not be disrupted during construction. Any changes to the pick-up schedule will be communicated to residents in advance.

Information on this project is being communicated through this Construction Corner, www.heynewmarket.ca/lorne and by your Construction Liaison Committee representatives.

The Town values your feedback on these updates and appreciates your continued patience while we proceed with this reconstruction project. Please contact us at 905-895-5193 to provide your thoughts.
