Lorne Avenue - Construction Corner Update - Week of October 3, 2022

As a resident of Lorne Avenue, you have been receiving regular notices from the Town of Newmarket regarding the reconstruction project in your area. Thank you for your continued patience and support with the project.

The contractor has recently completed underground works on the project, and has now shifted focus to the reconstruction of the road. This involves the excavation of the materials currently present and replacement of a new road base, followed by concrete curb and sidewalk construction, and then asphalt placement.

There are two operations currently being completed in parallel by the contractor:

- Concrete work between Timothy Street and Millard Avenue

- Road building between Millard Avenue and Davis Drive

While works remain on schedule to be completed by year end, issues associated with a shortage of available concrete have slowed works between Timothy Street and Millard Avenue, and may delay progress in the area north of Millard Avenue once concrete construction works are initiated.

Over the past two weeks:

• The sidewalk on the west side of Lorne Avenue from Timothy Street to Millard Avenue was installed;

• Roadway catch basins and other stormwater accessories north of the Millard Avenue intersection were completed;

• The sidewalk on the east side of Lorne Avenue, south of Millard Avenue was initiated; and,

• Restoration work, including retaining walls, within the Phase One area south of Timothy Street was completed.

Over the next two weeks:

• Excavation of the existing road materials and placement of new granular material will continue north of Millard Avenue; and,

• The contractor will pour the sidewalks on the east side of Lorne Avenue from Millard Avenue to Timothy Street.

Waste and recycling curbside pick-up by Green for Life (GFL) will not be disrupted during construction. Any changes to the pick-up schedule will be communicated to residents in advance.

During road building, the contractor will endeavour to maintain access to driveways wherever possible. At times, such as when deeper excavations are required, this may not be possible. Residents will be notified prior to driveway access disruption, and parking on side streets may be required. The disruption notice should be placed on dashboards to avoid ticketing during overnight parking.

Please note: Rolling temporary road closures will be necessary in the area to allow for the completion of this project.

Detour routes for vehicular traffic will remain in place until the project is completed. Local access for residents, pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be maintained. Signage is in place to ensure safe traffic flow. Please note that road conditions may deteriorate during construction, especially when it rains. Although crews do their best to maintain the road in good condition for vehicles, there will be bumps and holes to contend with. Please use caution and drive slowly to maintain control of your vehicle and to avoid any potential damage, and use detours whenever possible. The major works in Phase Two of this project are expected to be completed by end of 2022, with restoration work resuming in the spring of 2023.

Information on this project is being communicated through this Construction Corner, www.heynewmarket.ca/lorne and by your Construction Liaison Committee representatives.

The Town values your feedback on these updates and appreciates your continued patience while we proceed with this reconstruction project. Please contact us at 905-895-5193 to provide your thoughts.
