Lorne Avenue - Construction Corner Update - Week of September 12, 2022

As a resident of Lorne Avenue, you have been receiving regular notices from the Town of Newmarket regarding the reconstruction project in your area. Thank you for your continued patience and support.

Underground works on the project are nearing completion, with only stormwater works accessories remaining. As soon as these underground works are completed, the project will shift into full restoration mode, with the completion of all roads, sidewalks, and associated surface works.

Over the past two weeks:

• All watermain connections were completed;

• All sanitary sewers including resident services were completed;

• Curb installation between Timothy Street and Millard Avenue has been initiated;

• The Queen Street Traffic Island was completed.

Over the next two weeks:

• The sidewalk on the west side of Lorne Avenue from Timothy Street to Millard Avenue will be installed;

• Roadway catch basins and other stormwater accessories north of the Millard Avenue intersection will be completed;

• Excavation of the existing road materials north of Millard Avenue will be initiated, with new granular material being imported to form the new base for the road;

• Road building will continue north of Millard Avenue in a northerly direction;

• Residents are expected to see various restoration work starting at Eagle Street and progressing north, which will include installation of some retaining walls.

Waste and recycling curbside pick-up by Green for Life (GFL) will not be disrupted during construction. Any changes to the pick-up schedule will be communicated to residents in advance.

During road building, the contractor will endeavour to maintain access to driveways wherever possible. At times, such as when deeper excavations are required, this may not be possible. Residents will be notified prior to driveway access disruption, and parking on side streets may be required. The disruption notice should be placed on dashboards to avoid ticketing during overnight parking.

Please note: Rolling temporary road closures will be necessary in the area to allow for the completion of this project.

Detour routes for vehicular traffic will remain in place until the project is completed. Local access for residents, pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be maintained. Signage is in place to ensure safe traffic flow. Please note that road conditions may deteriorate during construction, especially when it rains. Although crews do their best to maintain the road in good condition for vehicles, there will be bumps and holes to contend with. Please use caution and drive slowly to maintain control of your vehicle and to avoid any potential damage, and use detours whenever possible.

The major works in Phase Two of this project are expected to be completed by December of 2022, with restoration work resuming in the spring of 2023, if necessary.

Information on this project is being communicated through this Construction Corner, www.heynewmarket.ca/lorne and by your Construction Liaison Committee representatives.

The Town values your feedback on these updates and appreciates your continued patience while we proceed with this reconstruction project. Please contact us at 905-895-5193 to provide your thoughts.
