Construction on new pickleball court is set to start in spring 2026
After a thorough site selection process, the Town is preparing for the construction of a new facility with 20 courts located at 175 Bayview Parkway, at the south end of George Richardson Park in spring 2026. The design will include an inflatable bubble for year-round play. Provision will be made for a future clubhouse with change rooms and washroom facilities.
Several criteria were considered in selecting this location including distance from residential housing, parking, potential displacement of other facilities, capacity to grow, as well as the location of existing facilities to ensure distribution of recreation access across the community.
What’s next?
Town staff are working with our landscape architects at Schollen & Company to design the pickleball courts, dome, and clubhouse. The inflatable dome is on order.
The project team is targeting to start construction in spring 2026, and to open the dome to the public late next year.
Public meetings held for the future growth of pickleball
Newmarket hosted two drop-in Public Information Centre on January 31, 2024 and October 29, 2025. More than 50 people attended the October 2025 meeting and viewed the preliminary design concepts. See the public information boards presented at the meeting.
Information about how the new facility will be operated including the relationship with Newmarket Pickleball Club during summer operations were discussed. More information on the operation of the courts will be released closer to the completion date of the courts.

Background
Over the past few years, there has been a significant growth in the sport of pickleball. This growth, coupled with the goals set out in the Town’s Recreation Playbook has identified a need for a dedicated, year-round pickleball facility.
At several council meetings through 2023 and 2024, Newmarket residents have showed their support for the growth of pickleball locally with the construction of a dedicated pickleball facility.
