Shining Hills application to develop on the Oak Ridges Moraine
I think that without question, the vast majority of residents & taxpayers & voters in Newmarket are asking council to reject any application for development on the Oak Ridges Moraine. As well, any applications for any type of development even off the Moraine, should require very stringent & sustainable building requirements: electricity & no gas, net-zero insulation, the fewest number of trees removed, high-density modest housing.
My family says no to Shining Hills!
As we come out of this Covid-induced isolation we will be doing everything in our power to raise awareness in Newmarket about the development application being made by Shining Hills. I have already spoken to my friends and neighbours and all are opposed to any proposed building on the Oak Ridges Moraine. I propose having an in-person, well-advertised, Town Hall to discuss protecting the ORM against development. I noticed that of the passionate and excellent deputations made to council on January 18, 2021, none were in favour of this development. That should give council a clear message! The residents of Newmarket want you to protect our green space and in particular the Oak Ridges Moraine.
If we are looking at the need for housing, anyone can see that the building of prestige-driven monster houses do nothing whatever to provide needed housing.
Building of any kind on the Oak Ridges Moraine, rather than protecting it during a climate crisis, is madness!
