Consultation has concluded

The Town of Newmarket will be undertaking sediment removal from three stormwater management ponds this year. Sediment removal is critical to maintain effective stormwater control and preserving the overall health of aquatic ecosystems.

This pond cleanout project encompasses the comprehensive restoration and revitalization Dry Pond 39, on Gorham St; Wet Pond 44, in George Richardson Park; and Wet Pond 73, on Best Circle. The scope of work involves the removal of accumulated sediment at all three ponds, and restoration of a diversion berm and channel at Pond 44.

Work is being completed by the Town’s contractor Buildscapes Construction Ltd and is expected to begin during the week of June 3 until the end of October 2024 in the following sequence:

  • Gorham St Dry Pond (Pond 39), June 3 – August 15, 2024. See map for details
  • Best Circle Wet Pond (Pond 73), June 3 – August 15, 2024
    • During this work, access to the trail from Best Circle and Comfort Lane will be closed. please use detour routes. See map for details.
  • George Richardson Park Wet Pond (Pond 44), August 1 – Mid-November, 2024
    • During the work, access to the trail from Red Deer Street, Bayview Parkway North and South will be closed. Please use detour routes. See map for details.

As with all construction works, residents may experience dust, noise, odour and truck traffic. The Town, and Buildscapes Construction Ltd will do their best to limit these inconveniences as much as possible.
