The current green garbage bins will be removed on September 29, 2025.

How to participate?

  • If your property is located within the Market Square area, you may be eligible to use the in-ground garbage, recycling, and organics (food waste) bins. Please email wasteinfo@newmarket.ca to request an application form.

Background Information

In-ground waste containers are being piloted in the downtown area to help address waste management challenges, reduce odours and pests, and increase waste capacity. These durable, locked containers are partially buried underground, with only a portion visible above the surface. Approved properties that have registered for access will be able to use either a key fob or mobile app to access the containers.
