The Town of Newmarket, in partnership with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) is exploring options for the future of the Town’s property at 320 Alex Doner Drive (formerly a portion of the Glenway Golf Course). The property is located between Alex Doner Drive, Bathurst St, Otton Road and Rhodes Cir/Binns Ave. See map below for more information.

On May 6, 2025, members of the community joined a public information meeting to discuss the design phase. During the meeting we collected input from the community to help shape future plans for this site. You can watch the virtual meeting here, or under 'videos'.

if you have any further questions, feel free to drop them in the "Questions section below. Future updates on the design process will be posted to this page as they become available.

The goal of this project is to:

  • Enhance stormwater management through improvements to water quality and quantity controls by retrofitting the existing stormwater ponds
  • Enhance Flood and Erosion control to downstream watercourses, including Western Creek
  • Reduce overall phosphorus loading to Lake Simcoe and its tributaries
  • Improve the Natural Heritage system by adding natural features like wetlands and reforestation
  • Include a trail system for enjoyment by residents

Site Investigations

To determine possible stormwater and natural heritage improvements to the site, LSRCA has undertaken multiple site investigations to characterize the current site conditions and effectiveness of the ponds in their current state. A consultant (Aquafor Beech Ltd.) has been retained by the LSRCA to develop the design to enhance the site.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to finalize the preparations to begin construction of this project. The last tweaks to the design are being completed and an update will be provided in the coming weeks. The Town will be issuing the tender to hire a contractor this summer and anticipate works to begin on site later this year, wrapping up in 2027. Once the contractor has been hired, a more detailed timeline will be shared. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we prepare to enhance this space.
