UPDATE: May 13, 2024

All work has been completed and the project is now in warranty period.

UPDATE: December 2023

The project is substantially complete. Temporary line painting will be completed winter 2023 with final line painting and minor restoration works in spring 2024. Thank you for everyone's patience during construction. If you notice any deficiencies on the project please contact Eric Engman.

The Town of Newmarket has started its watermain lining project in the Newmarket Heights area.

Watermain lining is a method used to renew the current watermain infrastructure in order to increase its lifecycle. As part of this project, the Town will also be replacing the fire hydrants and reconstructing pedestrian crosswalks to meet current accessibility requirements.

Newmarket Heights' residents are encouraged to view the engineering drawings for this project in order to review the potential changes to the boulevard fronting your home. You can also view the map below to see the area where the project will take place.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How is the water being provided to my home?

Water is being provided through the temporary above-ground pipes which connect to the hose bibs. These watermain pipes and hoses have been disinfected, certified, protected during transportation, and in compliance with all regulatory standards. All pipes are cleaned and commissioned as per Town of Newmarket standards before connecting to the homes. The water is continually monitored and tested.

My water meter is turned-off, how will I be billed for water use?

Your water meter will be turned off during the duration of the project. The Town of Newmarket has worked Newmarket Hydro and all residents will be billed at a flat rate based on historical use when they are connected to the temporary by-pass. Normal billing will resume when the water meter is turned back-on.

There is a leaking pipe or a safety issue on-site. Who do I contact?

Please call the contractor (Fer-Pal):

  • Daytime phone number (7 a.m. to 6 p.m.) 1-866-344-1058

Sue Lubowitz asked over 1 year ago

Hi Sue - thank you for the question.

201 Penn Avenue is within the construction limits of this project.  There was a sanitary sewer replacement project in this area last year which had large trench excavations. This project will have frequent but smaller pit excavations spaced along the road in order to access the watermain for lining and replacement of watermain appurtenances.

On page 4 of the engineering drawings, there is information on where the proposed pit excavations are. There is currently one proposed just west of your home.

    Hope this helps

    Eric
