Please change the title on your home page to show that Shining Hills is asking to remove the environmental protection designation on this land so that readers understand what is at stake.

I think residents of Newmarket need to know that Shining Hills is asking for the removal of environmental protection status to build on this ORM land and this should appear on the home page please.

Thank you,

Fran Bazos

So I guess the latest IPCC assessment report means we need to think about how we are going to live in a world that is very different - at least our descendants will! That means getting prepared to adapt to changing conditions, and building towards resilience. So with that in mind, wouldn't it be great if we could see the Shining Hills project as a wonderful opportunity for Newmarket to showcase a community built for the future, rather than using the same old formula from the last century that these developers are stuck on?
Any new development needs to be built with resilience in mind.
Shining Hills is a small area with great potential for building a net-zero, "active transportation" community, fully energy self-sufficient with distributed power, (solar panels on every roof), natural areas, vegetable gardens and greenhouses, all electric services (no natural gas) with modest sized, compact houses opening on to wide walkways - no lawns and no asphalt. All hard surfaces to be permeable, and with rain-water collection. There would be EV charging points at every front door, and an EV car club for those who don't want to own a car. And of course as many trees and shrubs as could be jammed in!
If we are to approve a new development on these lands - let's make sure it is built for the future, with resilience in mind..
