It has occurred to me that when Mayor Tom Taylor and council placed the subject lands under environmental protection, in 2003, they must have had a good reason for doing so. What has changed since then to render this protection unnecessary?

When the property was purchased by the Shining Hill Estates Collection Inc. the buyer would have been aware of the EPA-ORM designation. The purchase went ahead, with the intention of building a housing development there. It would be interesting to know whether some assurance was given at the time - perhaps by someone in government - that the designation could be changed through an official plan amendment.

The company has agreed to transfer 31 hectares from private ownership to public ownership. Is that the area currently covered by wetlands?

I agree this land was put under protection for a reason.
A reason that is even more important today in a time of Climate Crisis!
