An artistic rendering of the future Mulock Park with text stating it's an extraordinary park for today and tomorrow

Imagine… a 16-acre green oasis set under a gorgeous tree canopy in the heart of urban Newmarket at the corner of Mulock Drive and Yonge Street. The future park on the former Mulock Property embraces the site’s natural beauty, enhanced with space for active exploration, peaceful retreat, and an opportunity to inspire and be inspired by the arts.

From 2019 to 2021, the Town of Newmarket, engaged over 3,000+ people to share their ideas and visions for the property which has helped develop our five guiding principals, three concept themes and the final design concept. Newmarket looks forward to bringing the community’s vision to life. To create a place where community, life, recreation, culture, heritage and conservation collide in innovative and engaging ways.

Here's a sneak peek of what will be built on this 16-acre park and community space:

What will be inside the house

    JOHN asked 6 days ago

Hi John, thanks for this question. The Mulock House will be home to an art gallery curated by the Art Gallery of Ontario.  There will be food service, both catered and in a café setting.  There are also some lovely community spaces planned which will be available for walk-in use and rental, including the Mulock Family’s historic library which will be used as a public lounge area.  We are looking forward in welcoming the Newmarket community and visitors back to this historic home when construction is completed.

Thanks so much for your interest, Val.  We are very sorry to hear about your mother’s passing.  At this time, the Town is not planning memorial benches within Mulock Park. The Town’s Celebration Bench Program is currently on hold and we expect to have more information in Spring/Summer 2025. If you’re interested in this, please reach out to customer service at info@newmarket.ca for more information later next year.

Thank you for your comments.  We appreciate the patience of our neighbours.  Unfortunately noise barriers would be prohibitively expensive and cause damage to the trees on-site, without providing beneficial noise reduction.  The Town has also limited the contractor’s hours of operation.  If you have specific concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at MulockProperty@Newmarket.ca

Hello, thanks for your interest in the park!  We are working through how the space will be programmed and rental opportunities. We are planning to have a variety of rental spaces in the house for private events. The lawn in front of the home is a multi-purpose space that we can adapt for various programs. As for rental of the grounds, we’re still working through this offering but will note there’s interest! Thanks for following the project.

    The House?

Stan Neal asked about 1 year ago

Design of the House is moving forward, and we expect to start the renovations in the middle of 2024.  The design includes a café, community spaces, and the art gallery we are developing in partnership with the Art Gallery of Ontario.  The design protecst the character of this designated heritage building.  We are excited to open the House together with the Park at the end of construction.

How big was the original mulock farm

Bill Kidd asked about 1 year ago

Thanks for your question.  The former Mulock Farm varied in size over the years as land was bought and sold.  Our research suggests it peaked at about 210 acres.

Hello, thanks for your question.  There will be two parking lots to serve visitors to Mulock Park – one parking lot for 38 cars on Mulock Drive, and a larger lot for approximately 200 cars located on the Hydro Corridor, just north of the Park.

The Natural Discovery Playscape is one of the many creative ways that selectively removed trees will be used throughout the property.  Other trees removed will be used as furniture, landscaping, ground cover, and in some cases returned to the naturalized forest floor to feed the landscape and enhance the new ecology.  We are also happy to note that as part of this project, we will be planting three trees for every one removed, restoring the site ecology for healthier forest cover in the future. Thank you for following the project!

What does an artist residency include?

    Hayu asked 12 months ago

Hi Hayu, thanks for your question.  The Town is working on a plan for the artist in residency program at Mulock Park, and expects to share details with the community as the plan develops, closer to the park's opening.

In general, an Artist-in-Residence program hosts contemporary artists to work directly on site - with the landscape and through the use of a studio space in the new artist residency building. This program is a key education opportunity - creating exposure to artistic practices for neighbouring communities as well as career development opportunities for artists by supporting experimentation, space for creation and new ideas. This program will bring an interdisciplinary mix of artists to Mulock in a sustained way. Artists will work (not live) on site, and create an opportunity to share their practice with visitors through exhibition, performance or community workshops.

Thanks for following the park's creation!
