We are expecting a busy summer construction season, with the Contractor currently mobilized to complete underground infrastructure north of Millard, and about to initiate the building of the road, curbs and sidewalks between Millard and Timothy. The town will continue to keep you informed through these Construction Corners and through the Resident Ambassadors e-mail updates.

    Over the past few weeks:

    • Successful testing of the watermain between Timothy Street and Millard Avenue has been completed and we can confirm that the water meets all quality requirements as per the stringent standards of the Province of Ontario. The contractor is initiating the work to connect each home in this area to the new watermain.

As a resident of Lorne Avenue, you have been receiving regular notices from the Town of Newmarket regarding the reconstruction project in your area. Once again, we would like to thank you for your patience and support throughout this time.

At this time, crews are continuing with underground works between Botsford and Millard, and will soon start constructing the road, including new sidewalks and curbs. An additional crew has also begun work between Davis Drive and Millard Avenue, and the Contractor will soon be returning to complete restoration within the Phase 1 area between Eagle Street and Botsford Street. As such, Lorne Avenue will be even busier with construction activity as we move into the summer season. But more activity means that they will be completed sooner than by continuing with only one crew.

    Over the past two weeks:

    • A new watermain was installed from the Timothy Street intersection to the Millard Avenue intersection; the water has been tested and results will come in soon (no houses will receive any water from the new main until it has passed all stringent provincial tests and is proven safe to drink).

    • A new sanitary sewer and maintenance holes were installed from south of Calgain Road to south of Queen Street, working towards the Millard Avenue intersection.

    • Sanitary service connections were completed to the property line in front of all homes from Timothy Street to south of Millard Avenue intersection.

    Over the next two weeks:

    • Sanitary sewer construction will continue from Queen Street to Millard Avenue.

    • New water services to the property line of all homes on Lorne Avenue from Timothy Street to Millard Avenue will be installed.

    • Phase 2 and minor deficiencies and remaining work on phase 1 of this project will be completed by end of 2022.

Please note: Rolling temporary road closures and detours are necessary to allow for the completion of “Phase 2” of this project; however, local and emergency access continues to be maintained. Residents are asked to limit use of Lorne Avenue wherever possible.

Detour routes for through traffic will remain in place until “Phase 2” of the project is completed. Local access for residents, pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be maintained. Signage is in place to ensure safe traffic flow.

Waste and recycling curbside pick-up by Green for Life (GFL) will not be disrupted during construction. In the event that garbage collection is interrupted, please contact the Town or Site Inspector and alternate arrangements for pick up will be made. Any changes to the pick-up schedule will be communicated to residents through these notices and e-mail updates from our construction Ambassadors or the Contractor.

Community mailboxes are currently located down at Calgain Road. Access to mailboxes will be maintained by the contractor at all times for both pedestrian and vehicle access. Upon completion of roadworks within the Botsford to Millard area, the Town will be working with Canada Post to move mailboxes to their final location and away from the active construction area.

Information on this project is being communicated through this Construction Corner, by your Construction Liaison Committee representatives, and through special notices by the contractor regarding water service disruptions.

The Town values your feedback on these updates and we appreciate your patience while we proceed with this reconstruction project. Please contact us at 905-895-5193 to provide your thoughts.

As a resident on Lorne Avenue, you are receiving regular ‘Construction Corner’ notices from the Town of Newmarket to keep you updated on the reconstruction project in your area.

Construction is currently underway within a narrower section of Lorne Avenue between Timothy and Millard. Construction of the sewers is done one at a time, from the bottom of the hill to the top, with the watermain following the sanitary and storm sewer. For each sewer, the pipe on the street (the ‘mainline’) is completed first, and then connections are made to each individual home thereafter.

    Over the past two weeks:

    • The sanitary sewer mainline has been completed between Timothy Street and Millard Avenue.

    • The storm sewer mainline has been constructed between Timothy Street and Park Avenue.

    Over the next two weeks:

    • The storm sewer mainline will be completed to the Millard Avenue intersection.

    • Sanitary service connections will be initiated.

The Town is also working with the contractor to plan and schedule the restoration of the Phase 1 areas for work such as topsoil and sod, retaining walls, etc. Residents will be notified prior to the work being undertaken.

We would also like to thank the four Construction Ambassadors for the great work they continue to do representing the residents on this reconstruction project.

Currently, the Contractor is working on the underground servicing between Timothy and Millard, which involves the replacement of the watermain, sanitary sewers and stormwater sewers. In order to do this, the Contractor will replace one line at a time, moving from Timothy to Millard. To complete all three lines of pipes, this operation needs to go up and back three times. Once all three pipelines on the street are completed, the Contractor will then build service connections to connect the pipes on the street up to the lot lines of individual properties.

    Over the past few weeks:

    • Tree protection and removal work was completed to prepare for Phase 2 Construction

    • The sanitary sewer mainline between Timothy Street and Millard Avenue was reconstructed

    Over the next two weeks:

    • The storm sewer between Timothy Street and Millard Avenue will be reconstructed

    • The Contractor will commence connecting the sanitary sewer with individual properties

    • As this is a “Traffic Calming Demonstration Project”, our Town Council will be considering a speed limit reduction from the existing 40 km/h to 30 km/h on Lorne Avenue from Davis Drive to Eagle Street (at its Committee of the Whole meeting of May 30, 2022 at 1:00 pm), as a pilot speed limit reduction for the Town.

Please note: Rolling temporary road closures will be necessary in the area to allow for the completion of Phase 2 of this project.
