As we settle into winter, and gear up to open the much-anticipated Mulock Park in 2026, we are celebrating the second successful construction season. Work is now more than 80% complete – you can see a time lapse video showing the difference from spring of 2024 to November 2025.

Mulock Park has been a hive of activity, some days peaking at over 100 construction workers, and working six days a week through the fall to advance the work.

    2025 Work Highlights

    • Hollow Log Play Park and landscape plantings at the west end of the park are complete and ready for sod.
    • Skate trail concrete is placed, and the chiller plant is in place in the Skate Pavilion to ensure the 340 metre trail can be used throughout the winter season, even in our unpredictable climate, similar to Riverwalk Commons.
    • Concrete for the small marshalling rink and splash pad will be placed before the holiday break. The water feature fountains have been installed and the jets will spray out of beautiful natural boulders sourced from Muskoka
    • The four new outbuildings are 90%, complete, including the Glass Hall greenhouse conservatory, Artist Studio, Maintenance Building, and Skate Pavilion. Roofing and exterior cladding are in place and interior finishes are moving forward rapidly.
    • The exterior brickwork at the Mulock House has been stripped of its paint, brickwork inspected and repaired with sparkling new white, high-tech coating applied to restore the exterior (read more about the process here).
    • In the shop, Mulock House woodwork has been lovingly restored by skilled artisans, and is being reinstalled. One example of this is the restored windows which will dramatically improve energy efficiency while maintaining the historic look.
    • Mulock House foundation has been deepened, increasing the low headroom to make a public space with room for sprinklers and modern ventilation. The structural work in the house is 90% complete.
    • Custom lighting is being installed and powered up across the site.
    • Mechanical, electrical, water, and data services are connected and being started up across the site, and main site electrical connection was energized this fall.
    • Asphalt and gravel paths, access roads, and trails are being paved as landscaping is finished in each area.
    • The entry bridge steel is expected to be installed before the holidays. This entry bridge will welcome pedestrians from the main entry way at the intersection, and opens onto the Great Lawn.
    • The Yonge Street Parking lot and hydro corridor multi-use path are complete, adding 206 spots for the future park. You may have seen the new lighting was powered up in December!
    • The solar array is installed along Mulock Drive which will power all the lighting and domestic plugs in the Mulock House and buildings.
    • The artists are completing commissioned public art pieces in their studios, ready for installation before opening day.
    • In the background, staff have been planning the opening, meeting with our partners like the AGO, developing the park branding, preparing operational staffing and equipment to clear snow, cut grass, resurface the skate trail, and all the maintenance tasks needed when the Park is opened.

    2026 Work to come:

Over the winter, you may see less activity from the street as work moves inside the buildings. When the ground thaws, you can expect a flurry of activity as the contractors work to complete landscaping.

    • Over the winter, we will complete the interior finishes at the Maintenance Building, Glass Hall greenhouse, Artist Studio, Skate Pavilion.

    • Power up the geothermal system to heat and cool the three main buildings.

    • Historic woodwork will be returned to site from the restoration shop and interior finishes and furnishings will be completed in Mulock House.

    • Complete the pumphouse for the Riverine water feature and install the channel and plantings across the east side of the Great Lawn.

    • Install benches, waste bins, and other site furnishings.

    • Install public art pieces across the site.

    • Finish the landscaping and sod in spring 2026, once the ground dries.

The Town is planning a series of special events and looks forward to welcoming everyone to Mulock Park in mid-2026!

Thanks for your patience and following along as we work to create an extraordinary park for the community! Check out the ‘Present’ photo gallery for a sneak peek at the park.

Construction crews made the most of the beautiful fall season and continued to push key deliverables ahead on the project while snow arrived early.

One of the top community-driven priorities guiding each step of the design and construction process is to keep it natural. The team has taken great care to protect trees, restore the site’s ecology and create new systems to enhance the ecosystem, such as adding an infiltration gallery to clean rainwater and return it to the soil.

    Here’s what’s happening on site

    • The reconstructed trellises and arbours are being installed to bring the historic garden back to life and add to the site’s charm.

    • Top soil stored on the Great Lawn is being spread out over the lawn and other areas of the site to get ready for plantings.

    • The soft surface has been installed around the Natural Discovery Playscape and mulch is being installed.

    • Near Osler Court, the Maintenance Building exterior is complete, and interior finishes are underway. Fencing, railings, and the gate are being installed.

    • We will place sod as weather permits, until winter sets in.

    • Siding is being installed on the Artist Studio. Large planter boxes are being built near the greenhouse to accommodate a garden, and hedge rows have been planted as a further buffer for neighbours to the north.

    • Select paths and driveways are being graded and prepared for asphalt (weather permitting), and lights are being installed around the Mulock Drive entrance.

    Coming up:

    • Continuing asphalt placement on the path to connect the Yonge Street Parking Lot to the park and along the main access road which follows the original driveway from Yonge Street through to Jordanray Boulevard. This path is primarily for pedestrians but also allows for delivery, maintenance and emergency service vehicles.

    • Preparing to pour the concrete for the water feature and skate rink.

    • Installing the entry bridge which will welcome people to the park from the corner of Yonge & Mulock.

Stay tuned for the next update in December reflecting on the 2025 construction highlights, a new drone progress video and what’s to come in 2026.

Check out some recent progress photos ⬇️

📷 Natural Discovery Playscape: Workers place engineered mulch in the Natural Discovery Playscape as part of the soft surface around the playground equipment.

📷 Skate Trail: All hands were on deck for the one-day skate trail pour. This work was completed in a single pour to provide a smooth surface, and required approximately 16 hours from start of placement. Meticulous contingency planning and coordination of crews and equipment was required to provide a high-quality surface for winter and summer use.

📷 Skate rink & water feature: A crew installs insulation and piping for the skating rink and water play area. In the summer, water will be sprayed out of concealed piping under the boulders to create a water play feature.

Work is expected to start the week of November 24 to connect electrical service to the Yonge Street Parking lot within the hydro corridor. The work will take approximately 1-2 days to complete and will involve minimal disruption with a temporary sidewalk closure on Jordanray Blvd. near the homes closest to the site. One sidewalk will be maintained at all times and there is no impact to traffic and residential access.

    What’s happening?

Contractors are excavating a small pit and installing approximately 40 metres of buried conduit to connect the transformer to the parking lot within the hydro corridor.

The transformer is located in front of 30 and 34 Jordanray Boulevard. The conduit will be installed by directional drilling, meaning that the only excavation will be in the grass boulevard and sidewalk at the transformer (Town land).

We appreciate the neighbours’ patience and understanding while we continue to create the park.

Work is moving very quickly at Mulock Park, taking advantage of the beautiful fall weather before winter closes in. Crews are pushing hard to be ready for opening of the park. There are tradespeople on-site six days every week, and the weekday on-site workforce is between 90 and 100 workers.

At the Mulock House, the interior structural work is complete, and the atrium and elevator shaft are rising quickly. The veranda columns and railings have all been prepared by the restoration carpenters, and the reconstructed deck is rising up from the first to the second levels. The windows will arrive shortly and will start to be installed, and the accessible ramps are nearly complete at the south side of the building, while the footings for the matching ramps on the north side will be poured in the second week of October. The full house will receive its new coat of white paint over the month of October.

At Mulock Park, there is a major focus on site works before the winter. Permanent top asphalt is being placed for the trails, and the rubber surfacing at the playscape is taking shape. The main electrical power was turned on in September, and the electricians are bringing the panels online at the different buildings. The Greenhouse glass roof is in place, and the shingle cladding is being installed on the Maintenance Building, Skate Pavilion, Conservatory, and Art Studio. Maybe most exciting, the skate trail chiller piping and reinforcement are now fully in place, and the concrete will be placed before the middle of October. The solar array is also fully installed and will be ready to start generating power for the park before the end of the year.

The artists have been busy too, and we are starting to see images of the artworks which are at or nearing completion, and will be ready to install just before the park opens. Staff from our Recreation & Culture and Parks & Property Departments are hard at work planning for the opening, and getting ready to take over the operations, maintenance, and programming of this beautiful landmark park.

Check out some recent progress photos ⬇️

Skate Pavilion 📷 Pictured: In this image, the Skate Pavilion is nearing completion on right. The concrete bench seats are in place, and the piping has been installed for the water feature drains and jets. The next steps in this area will be to place the gravel, insulation, reinforcement, and chiller lines which will allow the summer water feature to convert into a winter time skating rink.

Conservatory Greenhouse 📷 Pictured: The Greenhouse Conservatory is taking shape. Here, you can see the glass roof and mass timber framework. The powered blinds will operate automatically to shade neighbours from night-time light in the greenhouse.

    The lane has now reopened

Starting Tuesday, October 21 to Friday, October 24 a small portion of Jordanray Boulevard will be reduced to one lane. Traffic will be directed to alternate during the work period. This affects a small portion of Jordanray backing onto the park, between Menczel Crescent.

    What’s happening?

The park contractor, Matheson is progressing the playground and will be working to create the rubberized surface this week. During this time, they need to park a mixing trailer on the street in front of the gate beside the playground. The trailer cannot be parked inside the park on the asphalt or playground-landscape area because it will cause damage.

We appreciate the neighbours’ patience and understanding while we continue to create the park.

    This work is now complete

UPDATE: The skate trail pour was successfully completed ahead of schedule and no overnight work is required.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Construction of Mulock Park is advancing rapidly. Night time work will be required this week on the skate trail.

Concrete placement for the skate trail will start at 5 a.m. on the morning of Thursday, October 16, 2025. Concrete placement will be complete by afternoon, with finishing touches continuing into the early morning of Friday October 10, 2025.

During concrete placement, neighbours can expect to see concrete delivery trucks and work lights and may hear construction equipment noise. This work must be completed in a single pour to provide a smooth surface, and requires approximately 32 hours from start of placement. Town of Newmarket staff have worked with the contractor to complete as much work as possible during daytime hours, and appreciate residents’ patience.

Work is underway to create the foundation for the skate trail, set to be one of the longest refrigerated skate trails in Ontario.

To protect trees and minimize impact on the natural environment, the path for the winter skate trail/summer multi-use path has been designed to follow a former driveway.

The Park contractors, Matheson Constructors are currently working to place and compact a gravel base. After this, they will be placing and finishing the concrete for the trail.

As with any soil compaction effort, some level of vibration may be expected during daytime hours. The contractor will continue to monitor vibration levels to ensure they remain within allowable levels.

One interesting part of the process is that the concrete for the 340 metre trail will be done in one continuous pour. This work requires meticulous attention and an extended work time to pour, smooth and finish the concrete to create a high quality trail visitors can enjoy for years to come. This will require overnight work on one day, expected in the fall.

On Monday, August 18 work is expected to start at the south end of Osler Court to connect new gas services to the Maintenance Building at Mulock Park.

No disruption is expected to neighbours - all vehicle and pedestrian access will be maintained during the 2-3 day work period. We do not expect an interruption to gas service.

What’s happening? Contractors hired by Enbridge Gas will be excavating a launch pit and drilling underground to install buried gas piping from the existing main to the park.

This work will be safely completed by licensed contractors hired by the utility, and in cooperation with Town and contractor staff.

All work will occur within the Town Right-Of-Way. Any damage to grass will be repaired.

Construction activity at Mulock Park was at an all-time high this spring with up to 120 construction workers on site daily, keeping the complex construction project on track.

    Here’s what’s happening on site:

    • Residents are excited to see the Natural Discovery Playscape at the corner of Jordanray Blvd starting to take shape and are curious about what’s to come (check out the artist’s rendering). The large tunnel is based on a fallen log and includes a climbing wall, nets, and beads on tracks. The log jumble is a climber that encourages kids to climb and swing. The hand pump and log flume are in place in the water and sand play area. The concrete footings are visible but will be covered with CSA-certified soft play surfaces to meet safety standards. Next steps will be to place the soft surfaces under all of the equipment, soft rubber paths, and mulch. The playground will not be accessible until the park opens, due to the active construction in the area.

    • Landscaping has begun! You may have noticed trees, grass and plantings popping up along the Mulock Drive parking lot. To date we’ve planted thousands of native plants across the park, many within the tree protection zones.
    • One of the site’s hidden showstoppers is the craftsmanship on the trellis connecting the two skate pavilion buildings. This forty-foot-wide timber trellis forms a dramatic curve and offers a subtle, natural aesthetic for the water feature and skate trail.

    • Now complete – the parking lot north of the park on Yonge Street is now complete and will temporarily serve as parking space for contractors working on the park.

    • Structural, electrical, and mechanical work at the Conservatory Greenhouse and Artist Studio, and installation of interior finishes.

    • Mulock House– Restoration work is full steam ahead and some key milestones have been reached inside the house.
      • The basement “underpinning” is complete meaning there is now enough headroom across the basement which will include washrooms, event room spaces, storage and a service kitchen.
      • Reinforcement of the building structure for the new public use is advancing.
      • Exterior foundation repairs are underway and we’re making the preparations for adding a new elevator and ramps to make the home accessible.
      • Mechanical work is underway in the attic and all levels.
      • White exterior paint has been meticulously removed and will be restored with a new mineral silicate paint to maintain the historical character with a modern, durable white coating (read more here)

    Coming up:

    • The concrete for the 340 metre winding skate trail will soon be poured. This will be complete in one continuous pour – a very cool construction technique – that requires many hours of focused work that will result in a smooth surface for walkers and skaters.

    • The entry bridge at the corner of Yonge Street and Mulock Drive will start to become more visible as we build up the bridge. Currently we’re working on the underground elements, like a retaining wall and pump house, to create the future trickling brook.

    • Adding glass to the Conservatory Greenhouse to complete the exterior.

    • Continuing to plant native species throughout the park.

For a bird’s eye view of the construction progress, check out this video which captures the work up to Spring 2025.

📷 Pictured: Workers prepare the roof of the Conservatory Greenhouse for glazing. The Conservatory will provide a warm, sunny four-season greenspace with a Mediterranean climate and plants selected for their fragrance.
